Racing Preview 2009

By Matt Childs

Portland, ME- Wiscasset Raceway was well represented this past Friday and Saturday at the 2009 Racing Preview at the Portland Expo Center. This two day event started off a little tricky for all involved, as everyone had to drive in the tail end of a what had been a vary treacherous snow storm but by the time everyone arrived in Portland the sun was shining. The cars and vendors shuffled in one by one as early as 8 a.m. The morning hours were very busy with teams polishing their cars up and business and race tracks setting up their booths. Once the show got started at 4 p.m. on Friday night the crowd started rolling in looking at Wiscasset's fine display of cars. Jason Gaboury and his father Art were there with their new 2009 Super Street which had a very nice vinyl wrap on it done by Erik at Custom Designs. Ajay Picard had his L&P Racing number #22 Steel's Real Rod's and Custom's Late Model at the show not only showing the nice machine but also collecting money for the Barbara Bush Children's hospital. Chuck Colby had a sharp looking Clarks Car Crushing Pro-Stock there along with his son Tiger who brought his familiar looking racing go-kart to the show. The fourth and final car at the display may have just been the best story at the show. Chris Doucette thought his dad was bringing his 4 cylinder truck in which he won multiple features with last season to the show but when Chris walked in he did not see his familiar ride. Instead his father Huey had purchased him a late model to run at the Center of Speed. The look on Doucettes face was priceless as he gave his dad a big hug and a big thank you. Other news announced at the show was that Jesse Dodge will be Tech this year. All in all the show went well. The people came, the cars looked great and everybody enjoyed themselves.
